We had such a great time spending the week in Orange County, California. We have been 3 or 4 times, and it is one of our favorite places to visit. Great weather, great food, and so many fun things to do! If there weren’t so many people there, we’d probably be tempted to move! With any trip comes a bit of outfit planning. I tried to take my own advice from this Tik Tok and mostly stick with one color combination – Navy and White! It keeps things simple when packing – and I am a massive over-packer! So without further ado, here are 4 outfits I wore in California!
On the first night of the trip, we headed to Laguna Beach! It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. We love the area by Montage Laguna Beach – it’s definitely a goal to get to stay there someday! It’s the perfect place for a bit of exploring and a few minutes sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean! Then we headed to Nick’s Laguna Beach. It is one of our favorite date night spots in OC, and it was so good!
The fit for day one was a combination of a few of my favorite pieces that I have posted about a ton! The J. Crew Heritage Cotton Crewneck sweater was the perfect weight. Layering it with my go-to spring jacket right now from Massimo Dutti was great for the 60-degree weather. And I fully leaned into the coastal vibes with my favorite white denim (these from Madewell are similar!). I finished things off with my go-to white sneakers and favorite sunglasses!
The next day, we headed up to Los Angeles for some shopping and more sightseeing! We have been to LA a few times before, but we have never gone to Venice Beach or Santa Monica Pier! They were definitely in stark contrast with the laid-back vibes of Laguna Beach. But, we really enjoyed the energy in both of these places. From the skateboarders in Venice Beach, to the theme park on the pier, it was a really fun day!
I stayed in the Navy and white color combination for this outfit as well. But, I went for more of a relaxed vibe with the Workwear Pants from Madewell. As I mentioned in this blog, Madewell Men’s is putting out some great pieces! These pants were a pleasant surprise for me! I think they are a nice mix of a relaxed fit without looking baggy or sloppy. I’ve never had a pair of double-knee pants before and it was a fun change of pace. Paired with another one of my go-tos, my navy crewneck from Longwharf Supply. I also added some more laid-back, California vibe elements to the outfit. This new mid-crown hat from Huega House is awesome and the perfect fit. And, nothing says So-Cal to me like a pair of Vans Authentics!
These last two outfits were a bit of a happy accident! I accidentally got a much looser pair of Classic Fit Chinos from J. Crew than I was anticipating. At first, I thought they were way too big for me. But, I tried them on because “big pants” are so in at the moment. I actually ended up really enjoying leaning into something of a new style for me! The high waist and looser fit was comfortable and a new vibe that I enjoyed trying! There is always a place for clothes that fit close to your body. But, I think I want to experiment a bit more with some relaxed fits this spring and see where I can add them into my wardrobe!
I wore this outfit two different ways – weather dependent. The first was great for a mid 60s day that we had. This olive green shirt jacket is unfortunately old (this one is similar!), and I get asked about it constantly! But I liked how the tone paired with the navy trousers. I also think the length of the jacket worked well with the higher rise of the trousers for a more classic look.
When the temperature was a bit warmer towards the end of our trip, I also wore it with a linen camp collar from Abercrombie! Again leaning into the navy and white for a coastal vibe, this look was flowy and comfortable. While it was only in the low 70s, I think this outfit could get you well into the 80s comfortably. The flowy shirt over the tank top, paired with the looser fitting pants and canvas shoes meant max breathability!
Hopefully these outfits are useful for you as you think about your wardrobe for spring! I know I am going to be going back to these looks, and creating some different variations over the coming months. As always, I think I could have added more color to the fits. But, I just can’t help but gravitate towards being a neutral guy! Let me know which of the outfits is your favorite!
