I’ve been getting a lot of requests lately to share a Men’s European Vacation Capsule Wardrobe! When it comes to traveling through Europe, it can be hard to know what to wear. Europeans are known for how well they dress and Americans don’t always quite measure up! On top of that, you can only fit so much in a suitcase, so you’re limited as to what you can bring. While I’m not headed to Europe this summer, this is exactly what I would pack! With each of these items, you can cover a variety of different activities and levels of dress from casual to elevated.
With this vacation capsule wardrobe, you can mix and match multiple pieces to create a variety of outfits! I’ve included some combinations here, but this is certainly not all-encompassing. And that’s the point of a capsule wardrobe: you really can mix and match almost anything from it to put together a look that you’re aiming for.
Summer European Vacation Capsule Wardrobe
1. Basic Shirts
The basics are essential to every capsule wardrobe! Since this wardrobe is focused on a European summer, a common theme of most items is breathability, comfort, and versatility! You can’t go wrong with a white Buck Mason Pima Classic Tee as a base layer with almost any outfit. I also included a navy Madewell Garment Dyed Allday Crewneck T to add a pop of (subtle) color to layer with! And, if you want options when it comes to layering, you know you have to throw in a good old-fashioned wife-pleaser.
2. Sweater Polos
You know I love a good sweater polo! They are the perfect way to immediately elevate an outfit for a dinner out on the town! Since these are a woven sweater, they will still be nice and breathable for those warm summer European nights! This Cotton Linen Resort Shirt and the Plisse Johnny Collar Sweater Polo are two that I’m wanting to add to my wardrobe right now!
3. Camp Collars
Camp Collars are a super versatile piece that should be a part of every summer vacation wardrobe! Wear it open with a wife pleaser and swim trunks. Or, button it up with a pair of linen pants, and you’re ready for the evening! This powder blue Camp Collar from Madewell is the perfect pop of color for the French Riviera or Amalfi coast! And this striped resort shirt from Banana Republic adds great texture!
4. Linen Shirts
When temperatures are warm and comfort is key, linen is always my go-to! Linen is a breathable material which makes it the perfect summer material. It also naturally wrinkles which leans even more into those summery European vibes! This striped Linen Oxford Shirt from Everlane will be super breathable and add texture to your outfit! And you can never go wrong with a classic white Linen Shirt like this one!
5. Linen Pants
Keeping with the theme of comfort and breathability, linen pants are the only way to go! Pants are innately dressier than shorts, so linen pants are perfect for an elevated look for dinner, a sunset cruise, or even a slightly cooler day! The Pull-On Traveler pant from Banana Republic have quickly become one of my favorites for summer pants! The drawstring waistband is very comfortable and will be forgiving when you’ve eaten way too much pasta! This Straight Linen Blend pant in cream is perfect for that summery feel!
6. Linen Shorts
Are you even surprised that we’re going with linen again here? The Linen Blend pull-on short is perfect for a comfortable day out exploring or sightseeing! The Lino Short from Banana Republic in stone grey is another great linen option! These pleated linen shorts from J. Crew are the best for an elevated outfit and spacious fit!
7. Swim Trunks
The Pull-On Seersucker swim trunk from Abercrombie is my all-time favorite swim trunk! The length is perfect and the liner is comfortable. With tons of patterns and colors to choose from, you can grab whatever fits your style best!
8. Layers
Even if you’re headed somewhere warm, it’s always smart to throw in layers! Evenings often cool off, and these can be great ways to elevate your look too! Throw this shirt jacket on over a t shirt and linen pants for dinner. Or, wear a crewneck sweater! You can always throw the sweater around your shoulders if it ends up getting too warm for it!
9. Accessories
You always need some accessories! Since we’re packing for vacation, we’re going for minimal accessories that each serve a purpose! Sunglasses are a must, a hat is definitely going to be a need if you’re walking around in the sun all day. And, the watches, while stylish, at least serve the simple purpose of telling time! They are also affordable enough that you shouldn’t have any trouble wearing them during your travels!
