Coastal Vacation Capsule Wardrobe

We spent the last 7 days on the Oregon Coast. It was such a nice reprieve from the triple digit temperatures back home. Summer days in the 60s are a real treat, and definitely have me looking forward to fall! I’ve talked a lot about packing for vacation because we love to travel so it’s often front of mind. I’ve found leaning into neutral color palettes is a great way to pack because you have so much mix and match potential. I followed my own advice on this trip and realized it turned into a bit of a Coastal Vacation Capsule Wardrobe.

I packed 23 items on this trip. You could probably do with 20 or less, and a few of my pieces were a bit redundant (i.e. a plain white tee and a white striped tee – where you might get away with just one. But, I really like all 23 so I will include them all here!

Shirts

This is one of my favorite t-shirts. I have it in a few different colors. It fits great, is relatively affordable, and I really like the “washed” colors that they come in.

I love a heavyweight tee, and Buck Mason’s Field Spec is one of my favorites. You could obviously swap this out for any tees you have, but I do like the texture of the weave and the substantial feel of this one.

Something about a white and navy striped tee just screams coastal vacation to me. It’s the perfect unique pattern to add to spice up those simple outfits.

If you’ve been following along for any amount of time, you know I love layering with a ribbed tank top. While it may not be warm enough on the cooler mornings, when the sun comes out it’s a must-have option for your trip!

This denim shirt from Turtleson has been one of my most worn items this summer, and I don’t see myself slowing down any time soon. It’s so soft and comfortable. It’s perfect to wear as outerwear over a tank top, or underneath a sweater. If you want one that is a bit more affordable, this one from Gap looks solid too!

For the warmest days, you’ll definitely want one short sleeved camp collar. This one is the perfect weight, and looks great buttoned or unbuttoned.

No capsule wardrobe is complete without a knit polo, right? I’ve been loving this one from Buck Mason because it has a slightly relaxed fit and looks a bit less polished and “old money” vs some other options on the market.

Pants

I invested in these two jeans earlier this year and have loved them. They’re so solid and a great fit for me. Obviously, jeans are subjective and there are tons of options out there. For cream or white denim, I like these or these. For dark blue, try these or these!

These chinos from J. Crew were a happy little accident. I ordered the wrong cut and they are much fuller than I was used to, but they’ve quickly become one of my favorite pairs! This olive color is so versatile too.

You might not even end up needing a pair of shorts, but better safe than sorry! This is a great option in a color you can wear with anything!

Outerwear

This is just the perfect cardigan. It’s such a great weight and 100% cotton so it still is fairly breathable. It’s perfect for those chilly days by the ocean!

No question about it, this is my most worn sweater the past two years. It’s the perfect weight, in my favorite color (navy blue) and just is flat out comfortable.

Every guy should own an olive green overshirt or chore jacket. This one from Taylor Stitch has been my recent favorite! It’s rugged and refined all in one package.

Linen can be a little tricky to pack, but the cotton blend here makes it a bit more forgiving. I really like this brown color to add another neutral tone to this capsule wardrobe.

Shoes

This sneaker is creeping into all-time favorite territory. It’s comfortable, goes with everything, and is perfect for summer.

Again, I think Vans are the perfect coastal shoe. But, you could obviously mix in your favorite sneaker here. Or if your vacation is going to be a bit more formal, a penny loafer would be a great option as well.

Accessories

This has been my go to watch lately. It’s easy to wear, minimal and comfortable. I love the navy dial, but it comes in a bunch of other colors. Code DAVID10 should get you 10% off too!

These are my go to sunglasses. Seriously, I probably need to branch out a bit because I wear them so much. But they’re a great option for a pair of round shades.

This is an other classic item I wear a ton. No, I’m not a Yankees fan but I don’t care. It’s just a solid hat!

I’ve worn this belt nonstop this spring and summer and don’t see an end in sight! It’s just a great simple belt, but the buckle is a really nice addition for something fun too.
