If you’re anything like me, at this point in the winter, your wardrobe is starting to feel a little stale. It’s all too easy to fall into the rut of throwing on a pair of jeans, a hoodie, and grabbing your puffer jacket on the way out the door. It’s cold out, you’ve already lived through 2-3 months of winter, and yet somehow you have another 2-3 months left! So, to keep things fresh for the rest of winter, I’ve compiled 8 easy ways to elevate your winter outfits! Each one of these is a simple swap that helps you ditch the basics and add a bit of intentionality to your winter style!
Add Pattern
It’s easy to grab a basic t-shirt or even sweater, but adding pattern can really elevate your look by adding visual interest! Adding checks or stripes is an easy way to incorporate patterns and elevate your winter outfits and this Checked Overshirt from Uniqlo is the perfect piece!
Texture
A herringbone or knitted material can be a great way to add texture to your outfit! A common mistake people make is thinking that color is the only way to break up an outfit, but texture can be just as effective! My jacket here is from J. Crew and it’s sold out, but Madewell has a few great options left!
Add Color
Swap out a neutral item for something brighter to add a pop of color to your winter outfit. The days are dark and dull in the winter, but that doesn’t mean your outfit has to be. A pop of color is an active and intentional way to elevate your winter outfits! My favorite way to do this is with a colorful pair of socks (which works even for the office!) or a beanie. Colorful Standard has a bunch of great options for beanies and Uniqlo is my go to for colorful socks!
Wear a Scarf
I never really wore scarves until I saw them all over Europe on our most recent trip. As much as they’re a stylistic element to an outfit, they are equally utilitarian! A good scarf can keep you warm and looking stylish on a cold winter day.
Wear a Warm Base Layer
When we went on our most recent trip to London, layers were key! Not only did I want to look good in what I was wearing–which meant not opting for a puffer daily–I needed to stay warm! I layered with this Uniqlo Heat Tech Shirt under everything and it made all the difference! Wearing a warm base layer can allow you to still wear your favorite outer pieces without covering them up with a giant coat.
Swap Out your Black Puffer for Something More Unique
I recently got this grey Ultra Puffer from Abercrombie and even having a jacket just one shade different than black adds visual interest and a fun color to incorporate! I have also been loving this 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket from North Face!
Monochrome Outfits
It doesn’t get easier than monochrome. Pick one color and wear shades of that color in every piece! It automatically looks elevated and stylish with very little effort.
Wool Coat
A wool coat is a great stylish coat option that actually keeps you warm! Depending on the temperature, you may still want a good base layer, but I wore this topcoat from J. Crew on the daily in Paris and found it to be the perfect temp!
Bonus: Mix and Match Any of the Above
Wear a scarf that is a pop of color! OR, swap out a boring black puffer for something with pattern or texture. You can’t go wrong with any of these 8 easy ways to elevate your winter outfits!
