I don’t know about you, but June always feels like the official start of summer. And while the unrelenting hot days of July and August are still a ways in the distance, early summer is definitely here. And while summer fashion gets a bad wrap, I think it’s a great time for those lightweight layers and flowy, breathable items! So without further ado, here are 4 summer pieces I am loving right now!
Madewell Easy Short Sleeve Shirt
I’ve been living in camp collar shirts already this summer. I have always loved the ones from Abercrombie (and still do!), but this year I picked one up from Madewell and am loving it! Abercrombie’s seem to have been cut a bit shorter this summer for more of an on-trend “cropped” look. I like that this Madewell one fits a bit longer. It just seems to fit my body type a bit better and create a better silhouette. I picked it up on sale in the blue color and then promptly ordered the black as well! It’s also 100% cotton and nice and flowy, so it will breathe great all summer.
Banana Republic Lino Linen Shorts
While this definitely isn’t my first time posting about them, I can’t recommend the Lino Linen Shorts from Banana Republic enough! They fit so well and are so comfortable. They are definitely the pair of shorts I have found myself reaching for most so far this season. I have them in the white color which I think is so versatile. But, I need to pick them up in a couple of other colors before they sell out for the season. I have the 7 inch, but they also come in 5 inch and 9 inch so you can find a pair that fits your body type and personal preference!
Vans Premium Authentic Sneakers
You guys might need to have an intervention for me because I have been wearing these *A LOT.* I’ve been loving them as a spring and summer alternative to my minimal white sneakers. They are more casual, but they are comfortable and the uppers are lightweight and breathable. I have them in both the cream canvas and the olive green suede. I have been surprised by how lightweight and breathable the suede is in particular! The upgrade to the “premium” pair is worth it. The quality is superior and the larger bumper is a much better look.
Breathable Sweater Polos
Sweater and summer might not be two words you put together. I certainly wouldn’t recommend heading out into the heat of the day with a long sleeve sweater on. But, there is a new wave of sweater polos I am loving this summer – open weave, cotton sweater polos. They can be lightweight, they let a lot of air in, and they just add some cool style and texture to your outfit. Unless you live somewhere really hot, I think these could be part of your wardrobe, especially for an evening event in the summer. A few that I love are this Open Stitch one from Abercrombie, the cotton silk blend from Suitsupply, or this linen cotton blend from Banana Republic.
Non-Fashion Bonus Item: Face Sunscreen
You’re probably tired of people yelling at you about wearing face sunscreen. So I won’t yell at you, but it’s probably still a good idea. I avoided it for so long for two reasons – I am cheap and I hate lotion. But, I’m a fair-skinned guy with probably a relatively high skin cancer risk. I finally gave in and tried a few different kinds. The 40SPF Daily Face Sunscreen from Trader Joes was an absolute godsend. It isn’t like lotion. It is more of a gel or goo-like substance like SuperGoop. But where a tube of SuperGoop will cost you $38, the same size bottle from Trader Joe’s is only $9. It feels great on my skin and my wallet! The only downside is you have to find it in-store, but it seems like they are carrying it more recently.
