Summer is coming and I couldn’t be more excited! And while that is great on so many fronts, summer sometimes gets a bad wrap for fashion. But, I think it can be a fun time of year to dress for. I also think it’s the perfect time to put together a capsule wardrobe of pieces you can mix and match to create great outfits. This Early Summer Capsule Wardrobe is perfect for transitioning from the slightly cooler spring days to the full on summer heat!
I’m maturing a bit, and only included one navy blue piece! That is big progress for me because I usually am a navy addict. The theme of this capsule wardrobe is neutral olive tones. By keeping mostly neutral pieces, it gives us tons of mix and match opportunities. As a matter of fact, I’ve combined these 14 pieces for 14 unique outfits. That’s two full weeks of outfit ideas!
As always, I don’t recommend going out and buying all 14 of these pieces (unless you really want to!). Instead, use this as a framework. Take pieces you already have and love and maybe add a few of these that look like your jam to spice things up. Put them all together and you’ll have your own unique capsule wardrobe to keep things minimal but still look stylish.
Light Wash Denim · Straight Linen Blend Pant in White · Linen Blend Pull-On Short · Buck Mason Tee · Abercrombie Ribbed “wife pleaser” Tank · Johnny Collar Sweater Polo · Heritage Cotton Crewneck Sweater · Linen Camp Shirt · Striped Oxford Shirt · New York Hat · Sunglasses · Watch · Vans · Koio Triple White Sneakers
A linen blend pant and sweater polo is so on trend this spring and summer! The straight fit will be comfortable and relaxed but won’t feel too beachy and voluminous.
A polo and light washed denim is perfect for a casual date night fit.
At least where we live, May and June don’t mean the end of cooler temperatures. A light cotton sweater is the perfect evening layer!
Don’t sleep on an oxford shirt as a light layer!I love wearing them as a shirt jacket over a white ribbed tank top. Roll the sleeves once or twice and you’re good to go!
This is a perfect early summer date look in my opinion! Wear the sweater, or drape it over your shoulders and give it to your date if they get cold!
I love Vans Authentics as a spring and summer shoe. They’re lightweight and comfortable. I do recommend opting for the “premium” ones with the chunkier outsole for a better look.
You can never go wrong with a monochrome look. Dark color monochrome is a great way to make a summer outfit look smarter!
Ah the first appearance of navy blue – all is right with the world! You could also add a belt with this look and it would look really sharp.
I love the light medium dark color blocking in this outfit. And, the striped shirt adds an interesting pop!
This outfit is perfect for a day running errands, out to lunch, or even a warm evening! These linen blend shorts have a unique texture that I think looks really nice.
Green and blue are analogous colors which means they are a soothing color combination. I think olive and navy is one of the best combinations of green and blue.
You know I couldn’t resist one navy blue and white outfit in this capsule wardrobe!
Accessories and textures keep a simple outfit from just feeling boring. The suede texture on the shoes here really adds a lot of visual interest.
Again – accessories are key! Remove the hat, watch, and sunglasses and this looks boring. Instead, I think it’s a sharp and simple outfit.

And there you have it! Only 14 pieces, but ton’s of variety! I hope this was helpful. It was really fun to work on! I will definitely plan on more of these in the future as well. If you have any feedback or specific requests, I am always open to it!
