Are you heading on a vacation soon? Whether it’s a spring break trip or a weekend getaway from the winter cold, your wardrobe is probably in need of some upgrades before you head out. If you work in an office or spend most of your time on the weekends in your lounge clothes, you may not have a great set of clothes for a warm-weather vacation ready to go! One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing men wearing golf polos and sneakers on vacation while their wife clearly put in some effort to look great! So, I’m here to help be a part of the solution. Here are my 7 Vacation Essentials for men!
1. Sweater Polo
A good sweater polo is the perfect piece to wear for a day shopping around town or for a nice dinner out! Style doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort (or heat for that matter) and a sweater polo is a great way to achieve both! I love this sweater polo from Marine Layer and this one from Abercrombie! Looking for pieces with a high cotton content will make sure they still breathe a bit too!
2. Linen Camp Collar Shirt
Please yourself a favor and upgrade your golf polo for a linen camp collar shirt. I promise it will be even more comfortable because linen is quite literally designed for warm climates. It’s breathable and comfortable. And, it looks ten times better! Sorry, but the only place your golf polo belongs is on the golf course. Plus, you can wear it with a pair of swim trunks (like in the photo below) or dress it up for lunch or dinner!
3. 5″ Pull on Swim Trunks
If you haven’t made the switch yet, it’s time to stop wearing swim trunks that touch your knees. Step into the modern era and try a shorter swim trunk! I promise, you won’t feel as exposed as you think. And, you’ll probably find that it’s actually more comfortable! These 5″ Pull on Swim trunks from Abercrombie are my all time favorite! I own them in multiple patterns and colors!
4. Linen Pants
Once again, in the name of not sacrificing comfort for style, in a warm climate, linen pants should be your go-to! Many all-inclusive tropical resorts have dress codes that require men to wear pants. So if you’re headed out for a luxurious Mexico vacation, you may find that you need some pants that will be comfortable, even in the heat! I also love the linen-cotton blend chinos from Proper Cloth that I’m wearing in this photo! Proper Cloth is awesome because you can really dial in your fit, and the quality is fantastic. You can use my code DJE10 for 10% off your first order as well!
5. Casual Shorts
Of course you’ll need some casual shorts for wearing out and about! These linen pull-on shorts are comfortable and will look great-you might be sensing a linen theme here! Another favorite casual short is the A&F All Day Short which I’m wearing here in this photo! Or, if you want to keep it a bit more casual, the Bowline Shorts from lululemon are absolutely fantastic as well.
6. Cotton Sweater
If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know I have a strong affinity for crewneck sweaters. For warmer weather, a 100% cotton sweater makes for a great layering piece. A lot of places that are warm during the day still tend to cool off a bit at night! Cotton is that perfect in between to breathe but keep you just warm enough. Or, maybe you won’t need it but your date will and will appreciate you having it! The one I’m wearing in the photo is from Abercrombie, or This sweater from Banana Republic is awesome as well. Throw it on with a button-up for dinner and suddenly, you’re looking great and dressed for the temperature!
7. Accessories
You can’t forget the accessories! If you’re fair-skinned like myself, a hat is probably going to be a daily wear. I love these 47-brand baseball caps for a stylish and good-looking hat option! Huega House is also putting out some great hats these days if you don’t want to rep a specific sports team. I’ve yet to see anyone look bad in a Huega House hat! Finally, if you’re going for a more elevated look, you can never go wrong with a Ralph Lauren Polo Hat.
Along with a couple hats, you’ll need some sunglasses! My current favorite sunglasses are the RB2180 style from Ray Ban. If you’re not looking to break the bank on a pair of sunglasses that could end up in the ocean, you can grab one of these dupes from Amazon!
For shoes, I try to pack light when traveling! For a day at the beach, this Birkenstock slide is water and sand friendly! A pair of breathable canvas sneakers like these Vans are great for a day out and about. And you can’t forget my favorite white leather sneaker from Koio to dress it up for dinner!
And last but not least, you can’t spend a day at the beach or by the pool without something good to read! I always grab my Kindle for easy reading in the sunshine and while traveling!
There you have it– those are my 7 Vacation essentials for men!
